“IN A WAY IMMORTAL” ITS THE FIRST NFT IN A SERIES OF TEN WORKS!
The Spanish Club auctioned off FC Barcelona’s first NFT artwork in the Club’s history for $693,000 at Sotheby’s in New York.
The auction ended at $550,000, but after the auctioneer’s fees (Sotheby’s Premium) were deducted, the total aggregate sale was $693,000.
The item is an audio-visual digital artwork that recreates Johan Cruyff’s legendary stadium moment on December 22, 1973, when the legendary Dutch player ‘flew’ through the air to score a game-changing goal against Atlético Madrid goalkeeper Miguel Reina.
Along with the animated edition of ‘In a Way, Immortal,’ the buyer also purchased four additional NFTs, each including a static image of the animated version capturing an iconic moment of the famous goal.
The auction at Sotheby’s, the world’s premier destination for art, luxury, and collectibles, began online on July 21 and concluded on July 29 with the sale of the digital artwork ‘In a Way, Immortal,’ which was inspired by a quote by Johan Cruyff.
More than 30 investors were interested in the sale of the NFT, and there was much excitement in the final moments before the auction ended.
The Club produced the first artwork in its history in collaboration with BCN Visuals, a strategic innovation partner and Digital Superstudio that developed the NFT’s cinematographic aesthetic.
The involvement of the World of Johan Cruyff made the project possible.
With the purchase of the NFT, the owner becomes a Barça Digital Ambassador, giving them access to various VIP benefits and experiences with the Club.
Aside from being the sole owner of the NFT, the buyer will be able to partake in various “money can’t buy” experiences.
FC Barcelona will include Meet & Greets, visits to La Masia, hospitality rights (for a minimum of five years), the right to play at the Spotify Camp Nou, and an official ball handover before a friendly match in the NFT’s smart contract.
In some ways, Immortal is the first NFT in a series of ten works that will be presented in stages over the next few months, each featuring iconic FC Barcelona moments and characters that add to the Club’s legacy and historical heritage.
The collection is part of the Club’s clear strategic commitment to embracing technology and innovation to create unforgettable cultural moments -both past and present- to educate and inspire its millennial, xenial, and generation Z supporters, among others.
The project also aims to reposition NFTs as a high-end experience product.
