BRITISH ARMY YOUTUBE AND TWITTER ACCOUNTS WERE HACKED TO PROMOTE CRYPTO SCAMS!
Several British Army accounts were compromised for a short time last weekend. According to the British Ministry of Defense, hackers advertised fake crypto on the Twitter and YouTube accounts of the British Army.
It’s unknown how the two accounts were compromised by the hackers. However, the army said, “We regret the slight disturbance to our streams.” “We are looking into the event and will learn from it,” was stated.
After hackers acquired control of the accounts, among other things, profile images and text were modified. Twitter users published articles on NFTS, and YouTube users uploaded movies regarding cryptocurrencies.
The YouTube Army account has been replaced by the account Ark Invest, which is a global investment firm. However, there is no evidence that said company was responsible for the breach.
According to The Verge, video interviews with Elon Musk discussing cryptocurrency were promoted on the YouTube account, along with clips of old livestreams by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey. These discussions took place last June at an Ark Invest conference. Thousands of people reportedly watched the hackers’ livestreams. According to blogger Molly White, the videos included an overlay that directed viewers to Bitcoin and Ethereum scams.
How long the hack lasted is unknown. However, on Sunday night, the accounts were made available again.
