Reddit, the social media/community app, gives away free Polygon blockchain NFTs to its most devoted followers. They released the ‘Collectible Avatars last month and sold them to people who do not qualify for the Airdrop. This is the latest in a series of Reddit moves into the blockchain, crypto, and NFT spaces.
Who Qualifies for the Reddit Airdrop?
On the server: r/CollectibleAvatars, the community platform announced that they would be airdropping collectible avatars to their top community builders for free. The post was published nine days ago, and they’ve been distributing them.
They also mentioned that qualified users could choose from four different styles of Collectible Avatars.
To clarify, to qualify, users must have accumulated a certain amount of ‘Karma.’ On Reddit, Karma reflects how valuable your contribution is to the community. Users can earn Karma in various ways, including posting, commenting, and giving/receiving awards.
People in the Reddit community frequently make fun of Karma as “fake internet points,” but Reddit has gone out of its way to find utility for it, as evidenced by this Reddit NFT airdrop.
Users were notified if they qualified for the Reddit airdrop, but the amount of Karma required was not confirmed at the time of the announcement. Polygon-based NFTs are now available on OpenSea. The 16,000 items have a starting price of 0.012 ETH.
NFTs on Reddit
For a long time, Reddit has been a strong supporter of NFTs. Previously, there were rumors on Reddit about a new NFT marketplace, and they also tested NFT PFPs on the platform. In June, the company collaborated with Gary Vaynerchuk’s VaynerNFT to publish ‘The ABCs of NFTs Playbook,’ a resource that guides new users into NFTs. It’s also worth noting that the r/NFT community on the platform has 490,000 members, demonstrating the popularity of NFTs among Reddit users.
Why is the Airdrop in polygon blockchain?
Polygon has no gas fees for creating NFTs, similar to Ethereum minting. They are ideal for the Airdrop of many NFTs or giveaways. Many projects, including Cool Cats, have used the blockchain for similar drops, such as a Halloween giveaway to anyone who entered a costume competition. Aside from that, projects anticipating a high volume of small transactions with their NFTs will frequently turn to Polygon for assistance. The Sandbox, for example, relies entirely on Polygon for its in-game assets.
